An evening of darts, a barbecue, football and plenty of creative player names: this time, the SOCCA GROUP’s men’s night was all about the oche.
The line-up included The Jazzman, LORDSPM, Donkey Kong, Drinking Q, The Magic Weasel, Pikehunter, Off Target, The Hillinator, The Seagull, Shapeshooter and our newcomer Tops Robs. The names alone would have been worthy of their own awards ceremony.
First the barbecue, then the darts
Before the decisive matches got underway, the first order of business was to make sure everyone was well fed. We had a barbecue together; of course, the World Cup was on in the background, and the anticipation for the darts tournament was building noticeably.
It soon became clear that Fabse is clearly better at the barbecue than at the dartboard. Newcomer Robert – alias Tops Robs – made sure of that with his all-out effort; the distance he covered getting to the board that evening must have been almost as far as he’d run on the football pitch.
A final full of excitement and fair play
The competition really heated up in the final, if not before. Dani, better known as ‘Donkey Kong’, narrowly won a close contest 3–2 to claim the title once again.
One of the highlights of the evening came courtesy of Hannes, aka ‘Shapeshooter’. Just as everyone was already assuming he’d won, he spotted a calculation error and corrected it to his own disadvantage. Fair play at the dartboard – and definitely a move that people were still talking about.
An evening away from the daily grind
In the end, it wasn’t just about points, sets or the trophy. The evening we spent together was just as important: having a barbecue, watching football, laughing and cheering on the team.
It’s events like these that make everyday working life at the SOCCA GROUP a little more personal – providing plenty to talk about over the next few days.
